Q&A
Why do Redrow think this site is appropriate for housing?
There is a shortage of housing land and new homes being delivered in Medway. We believe this site is an appropriate opportunity to provide new market and affordable housing in a sustainable location, through a sensitively designed and well landscaped scheme which is visually well enclosed by the surrounding woodlands and existing boundary trees.
Will Redrow have to contribute to local services?
Yes. As part of the planning application Medway Council would require financial contributions to be made to services including education, healthcare, open space, community facilities and local libraries, in addition to the affordable housing and open space being proposed as part of the scheme.
What are the timescales?
We are currently preparing the application for submission in late 2022. We would anticipate that application being determined during 2023 and if planning permission was granted would expect works on site to begin during 2024.
Is this development linked to the Lidsing Garden Development proposals?
No. This site is in a single private ownership and Redrow have a contract in place with the landowner to make a planning application for the development of the land, which is separated from the Lidsing Garden Development land by Chapel Hill Wood. The site is not linked in any way to the Lidsing proposals being promoted through the Maidstone Local Plan.
